API update – migration period extended to July 2026

In order to allow our users more time to migrate integrations to our new API platform, the window to do this has been extended.

Following our previous announcement of our new API platform, we would like to inform all of our API users that the window during which all integrations should be moved to our new platform has now been extended to the end of July 2026.

We would like to invite all users to migrate any integrations before this time, as we will then be switching off the legacy Sherpa Services API.

Please see information below and in our 'help' section for further details about this change.

Please also note that we will not be accepting new API key requests during this migration period.

Why are we doing this?

  • As the research landscape evolves, Jisc open policy finder needs to be more responsive to changing needs.

  • Over the last few years we have been working to modernise and improve the former Sherpa services software to allow us to be more robust, secure and responsive to user needs.

  • The current work to improve the API is an integral part of this modernisation.

  • Going forward we will be able to use this new API service as a foundation to improve how our users interact with our data, making meaningful changes to our data models and the way they are served via the API.

How can users access the new API?

  • Information on using our API can be found at https://openpolicyfinder.jisc.ac.uk/help/developers - we have updated this information to include details on how to access the new API.

  • All existing API keys have been migrated to the new API platform to help make the migration experience as seamless as possible.

  • All query paths from the existing Sherpa services API have been replicated on the new API platform and data is returned in the same format as you are used to.

  • For more detailed information, please use the documentation at the above link.

What are the timescales for migration?

  • We have a window open between now and the end of July 2026 to allow users to migrate any integrations over to the new API platform.

  • During this time we will no longer be accepting new sign ups for the API.

What will happen when the timescale has passed?

  • At the end of July 2026 we will be blocking access to the Sherpa services API, so please ensure any integrations have been updated before that time to prevent loss of service.

How can users find out more?

  • If you would like more information or assistance, or you would like to share any information on how future improvements to the API platform could help with your data needs, please email help@jisc.ac.uk using the subject "open policy finder api platform”.
